Dave Norris qualified No. 1, lowered the MiRock Superbike Series record to 7.027 seconds, increased his Outlaw Pro Street points lead and posted the quickest time in each round of racing during Sunday’s FBR Shop Autumn Nationals at Rockingham Dragway.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to get the Bryans Road, Md., rider to the winners’ circle.
A final round foul start cost Norris his third straight Rockingham victory and handed the title to Rob Hunnicutt, who shared the podium with Pro Sport Bike champion Vincent Demito, 5.60 Pro Comp winner George Scurlock Jr., and FBR Shop Quick 32 champ Robin Procopio.
Norris used a 7.072 to advance in round one and then was clocked in 7.179 seconds to turn back Brian Owens in the semifinals. In the final, he wasted a quicker 7.137 with the aforementioned foul start while Hunnicutt streaked to victory in 7.154 seconds, his best performance of the weekend and the quickest run by anyone other than Norris.
Demito’s victory in the Pro Sport Bike division was his fourth of the season, enabling him to lock up the series championship.
ET winners included Michael Rankin and Julie Clark in Nitrous Express Pro ET and Clay Davies and Robert Benge in Dragbikeforums.com Street ET.
