Larry “Spiderman” McBride and team made a long night of Thursday maintenance pay off with Star’s best run yet at 5.83 at 247 mph to take the pole during the opening night of qualifying at the ManCup Finals from Valdosta, Ga.
“It’s starting to come together,” McBride said with a smile. “It’s been a long year, but it’s starting to come together.”
The run was less than a tenth of a second off of McBride’s all-time career best of 5.74.
“I drove all day and it was well the worth it. It’s exciting to see. I’m so happy for them,” primary sponsor Joe Koenig of Trim-Tex Drywall Products said. “I could not be more proud of the Top Fuel class or Larry. They need Larry to run strong. He’s the ambassador.”
The 1.00 sixty-foot indicates there is room for improvement.
Official qualifying resumes Saturday, with eliminations on Sunday.
