The International Drag Bike League (IDBL) is proud to announce the creation of the Pro Stock Motorcycle testing takeover – a fun-for-all celebration of the sport of motorcycle drag racing.
All Pro Stock Motorcycle racers and crews, past and present, are invited to the IDBL MTC Summer Nationals at Maryland International Raceway (MDIR) May 19-21 for a free weekend test session.
“When I was a kid, occasionally legendary Pro Stock Motorcycle racers like Dave Schultz, John Myers and Matt Hines would show up at all-dragbike events when their schedule permitted. It was a coveted opportunity for the pros to mingle with sportsman in a much more relaxed environment. We don’t have this anymore in the dragbike world and I want to recreate it,” IDBL President Jack Korpela said.
“So many of our sportsman racers are big fans of the Pro Stock racers they see on TV and will greatly enjoy seeing them in person. Many of the pros are IDBL alumni, or even current IDBL racers like Pro Street and Real Street champion Joey Gladstone and sportsman standout Kelly Clontz,” Korpela continued.
For many teams this is a convenient stop on the way to their next race. It’s free testing at one of the nation’s quickest and smoothest tracks, most likely in very similar conditions they will see at the next event.
2016 Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Jerry Savoie “Louisiana” has already committed to bringing his famous Suzuki and entire operation to the event. “This is all about the sportsman racers and the fans,” Savoie said. “This will be a lot of fun. Drag racing is all about friends and family.”
Pro Stock Motorcycle racer and former MIROCK/IDBL competitor Chip Ellis will also take part in the event aboard his Junior Pippin Buell. “We should call this the Pro Stock outlaws because I’m calling out the Champ Jerry Savoie,” laughed Ellis, who has done a substantial amount of grudge racing at MDIR through the years. “I’m excited. MDIR is a great facility, the people take great care of us and it’s valuable testing.”
Several other teams are expected to take part.
“The IDBL and our racers really appreciate what these Pro Stock Motorcycle teams do and we wanted to show them that. I’m personally inviting all of them,” Korpela said. “We will have some fun. We can have a cookout and run an exhibition race on Sunday. If you are a Pro Stock Motorcycle fan this is a can’t miss event. Please make your plans to join us.”
The IDBL MTC Summer Nationals will also feature Pro Street racing and a special $5,000 to win Real Street Shootout.
