After a successful string of late-season races Pro Stock Motorcycle standout Karen Stoffer finds herself just three points shy of a top-five ranking in the POWERade points series heading into the final NHRA event of the season – The AAA Auto Club NHRA Finals from Pomona, Calif.
“That’s what we’re aiming for,” Stoffer said of the possibility of a career-first top-five finish. “We certainly have our work cut out for us, but we’re up for the challenge. Pomona has been a track where (tuner Gary Stoffer) really shines. We are going to try our best to go out on a high note.”
Stoffer, who has amassed three career victories and eight final round appearances, had perhaps the most successful event of her career at the NHRA race in Reading, Pa, in early October. Along with winning the event, she became the final member of the Mickey Thompson Six Second Club with a pass of 6.97.
The subsequent event, held in Las Vegas, was particularly special for Stoffer as it marked exactly one year since an accident in the pits nearly ended her racing career.
“I’m really glad that the milestone is behind us and we can focus on nothing but the race,” Stoffer said. “We didn’t do so well in Vegas and we couldn’t figure out the track. I feel much more positive about Pomona. Our goal is to go out with a win.”
