Cooper Performance of Warner Robins, Georgia, has agreed to serve as title rights sponsor of Rockingham Dragway’s grudge racing programs during the 2011 Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels MIROCK Series.
Cooper Performance will serve as sponsor of the daily Cooper Performance Grudge Runs (time runs without the scoreboards on) after each Pro qualifying session on Saturday and after each Pro elimination run on Sunday. In addition, Cooper Performance will sponsor the popular “Afterdark Underground”. Afterdark Underground features unlimited time runs in an open session that follows Pro qualifying on Saturday night of each event.
Cooper Performance, for 30 years specializing in cylinder head and engine building in motorcycle Pro Stock, Top Fuel, Pro Mod racing, supplies most of today’s “grudge” racers with their performance cylinder heads. According to owner Jerry Cooper, “we are seeing more of our products on today’s grudge racers as this class has become the hottest market in motorcycle drag racing.”
General Manager Glenn Allen will coordinate the Cooper Performance Grudge Program with Rockingham Dragway and is working on a contingency program for the grudge racers. “With the uniqueness of the Cooper Performance Grudge racers it is a challenge to create an equitable contingency program as there is no overall winner”, according to Allen. “We will come up with a cash award in some form. Track owner Steve Earwood and I are polling competitors to produce a means to award the grudge racer”.
This 2011 Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels MIROCK series begins with the Honda-Suzuki of Sanford Spring Open on March 18 with testing, qualifying on Saturday, March 19, and final eliminations on Sunday, March 20.
