Angie Smith’s Pro Stock Motorcycle team picked a perfect place to pick up its performance – zMax Dragway, her home track – and she responded Sunday with a semifinals finish.
Smith’s Karl and Kim Clement-owned Coffman Tank Trucks V-Twin was impressive. She took advantage of Joe Desantis’ foul start in the first round and left Eddie Krawiec at the starting line en route to her upset quarterfinal victory.
Smith had a .026-second reaction to his .084 and got the win light in 7.016 seconds at 192.33 mph to his quicker 6.975 at 191.57. Up against Andrew Hines’ quicker bike in the semifinals, she fouled out attempting to get the advantage off the line.
“I’m very happy with the way the weekend went,” she said while wearing a big smile. “I am pleased we ran so well with all of our family and friends here to watch us. We made a lot of progress on our tune-up and our momentum is picking up again. It couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I felt bad about the red light, but I had to do something to see if I could beat him.”
