The White Alligator Racing (WAR) team swept number one qualifier and the Pro Stock Motorcycle win at NHRA’s unique and difficult Four-Wide Nationals at Concord, North Carolina’s zMAX Dragway.
Champion Jerry Savoie started things off by riding his Suzuki TL1000 to the number one qualifier with a 6.824 at 196.24 mph. The Louisiana alligator farmer had to face his teammate LE Tonglet in the first round, along with Steve Johnson and Scotty Pollacheck.
Savoie didn’t survive the round, which gave WAR crew chief/tuner Tim Kulungian a chance to solve some new bike issues on Tonglet’s Nitrofish Suzuki.
Between Kulungian’s tuning and Tonglet’s cool-headed racecraft, the team came away with the huge win—Savoie’s first wearing solely his team owner’s cap and not his racing helmet.
“It’s all about focus,” said Savoie.
“I usually stage first when it’s just two of us,” said Tonglet. “In this Four Wide, you wanna get in there and don’t lose focus.”
“LE’s a great driver,” said Kulungian. “He did a great job and we’re really proud to have him as a teammate.”
