Team Liberty Racing’s Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey fought it out with the best of them in Pro Stock Motorcycle in eliminations at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX DRAGWAY.
First round, Reed and Sampey took on Andrew Hines and Hector Arana in their quad. Sampey’s 6.959-second pass at 192.96 mph and Hines’ 6.838, 195.11 finished in the top two and went onto the next round. Reed had an impressive .009 light but when the bike wouldn’t shift, he was forced to sit up on the bike and coast to a 10.037, 83.65; Arana’s 7.271, 195.34 did not advance either.
“My bike wouldn’t shift into third first round,” Reed said. “I really can’t complain, though. I just had some bad luck first round but we’ll try again in Atlanta next weekend.”
Sampey’s first round win was the 400th of her career and the first round win for Team Liberty Racing.
Second round, Sampey had a .012-second reaction time and had over two-thousandths over the next best reaction time by Hines. Sampey clocked in with her best of the weekend 6.944, 193.46 but did not finish in the top two of the heat over Hines’ 6.868, 195.11 and Krawiec’s 6.867,195.28.
“I’m so proud that I caught a good light and shifted on time and went perfectly straight,” Sampey said. “The hardest thing for me is to lose from my mistakes. We just need more time to tune and learn. I’m very proud of my team. I couldn’t be more satisfied with this weekend.”
