PSE / Star Racing Pumped for NHRA Toyota Nationals

Two races are left in the season and the PSE/Star Racing team is making their way to the 16th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

As the points stand today, Angelle Sampey is No. 4 and still has a legitimate chance at winning the championship on her Buell. Sampey has won in Las Vegas twice, most recently in the fall of 2002.

“The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one of my favorite racetracks,” Sampey said. “My focus is winning a race and the points will fall how they’re supposed to. If I start worrying about the championship, that’s when errors will be made so I’m not going to worry about the points too much.”

Teammate Cory Reed is No. 7 and is striving for the Rookie of the Year title that will be awarded at the NHRA banquet after the conclusion of the World Finals in Pomona, California. Racing in Sin City will be the first track in his young career that he will attending for a second time.

“Las Vegas was my debut race in Pro Stock Motorcycle last year and we unfortunately had a lot of mechanical issues at that race and didn’t qualify,” Reed said. “We’re going back there this time with a lot of knowledge and for redemption almost.”

The PSE/Star Racing duo has had some major success this year and that has put both riders in a great position heading into the final races of 2016. While Reed wants a win of his own, he knows knocking out some key players in front of Angelle in points would be an added bonus to going rounds.

“I want to beat everyone there this weekend,” he said. “If I go rounds and take out some important people for Angelle, that’s even better.”

Qualifying at the 16th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals begins on Friday, October 28th at two qualifying sessions at 11:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions will be on Saturday, October 29th at 11:45 am. and 3:30 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 30th.
