Rain may have postponed Sunday’s entire day of competition at the NHDRO Dragbike Summer Celebration, but Saturday was enough time for McIntosh Machine & Fabrication Pro Street bikes to put on a blistering show at Lucas Oil Raceway’s famous quarter mile on the west side of Indianapolis.
No Pro Streeter went quicker than Mark Paquette and his turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, the number one qualifying combination with a 6.841 at 205.72 mph. Jeremy Teasley is right behind with a 6.845 at 208.68, and Paquette’s teammate (and points leader) Bud Yoder is third with a 6.88.
Then it’s a step to recent IDBL winner Richard Gadson and the 35 year-old old school, nitrous, air-cooled Suzuki GS of Brad Mummert with a 6.97 at 201. But Gadson and the bike stepped up big time in Saturday night’s Dunigan Pro Street Shootout with a 6.89. Teasley won the Shootout with a 6.87 in the final against St Louis powder keg Rudy Sanzottera.
Fifth place qualifier Frankie Stotz caught a break with Sunday’s rain, because his little Honda was broke. He’ll get a chance to make the call when the race resumes at Indy with the NHDRO World Finals and Grudge Spectacular on September 25-27.
Paquette will face Will Santana in September, Gadson will face Sanzottera, Teasley will face Drew Tolliver, and Yoder will run Joey Jobbe.
Gadson followed up his Louisville Pro Comp win with a number one qualifying 4.15 on Jeff Jones’ nitrous-huffing “Fast Times Motorsports” PXM Suzuki. He’ll face Hoosier Ron Maddox in September, while Chris Cutsinger and Keith Lynn face off in an all-Hoosier, other half of the ladder.
Louisville’s Deshaun Wheeler qualified number one with a 4.602 in Quicktime Motorsports/Lindeman Performance Pro Ultra 4.60 eighth mile index. Points leader Brevin Bond struggled in last place with a 5.23.
Dave Page is Route 21 Top Gas number one qualifier, and he’ll face veteran Norwalk racer Craig Adams in September’s round 1. Like Pro Street’s Stotz, Kounselor Kenny Schwartz will benefit from the rain postponement to give engine builder Darin Duchek time to rebuild Schwartz’s motor following it’s death penalty verdict handed down in Top Gas qualifying.
Scott Grady’s perfect 8.900 placed him at the top of the Millennium Trailers Super Comp qualifying order. Points leader Chad Isley is way down in 12th.
Daniel Raduenz 9.502 took the top spot on the Streetfighter 9.50 index chart. Points leader John “Spooky” Markham is seventh with a 9.514. Raduenz will have to run deadly Kevin Adams in September’s E1.
Dalton Markham won Saturday night’s G&G Metal Spinners Pro ET race with a 9.55 on 9.55 dial-in. Bradley Shellhaas ran 8.91 on an 8.90 to runner-up in a fabulous race.
Defending Pro ET champion Scott Kaufman missed the event while having bypass surgery. The whole NHDRO family knows that Scott will recover quickly and hopes he might even be back on track in September.
Wild Wheelying William Giles won the Dennis Insurance Street ET final over redlighting Dustin “Tennessee” Lee.
Utilizing a superior arrangement of trailing rollerblade wheels instead of the standard wide plastic slicks, Ian Burt out of Ohio’s Burt Brothers Racing took Saturday’s 10 and under Big Wheel race.
CJ400’s “Al Capone” Kawasaki ZX14 was the big Port-Tech Grudge winner of the night, spotting a bike and the break and still taking the stripe with Teasley at the helm.
Brian and Niki Welch welcome the NHDRO family back to Lucas Oil Raceway near Indianapolis for what will now be a 2-race event—the NHDRO World Finals and Grudge Spectacular on September 25-27.
