Matt Smith knows the ups and down of racing, from winning his first race at Indy in 2005 then just two days later having it taken away to winning his first NHRA Championship in dramatic style in 2007. Therefore when Matt Smith along with all other Torco backed teams received a phone call letting him know that Torco Race Fuels would be suspending their funds for the 2008 race season, Smith put on his game face and started looking at what he could do to get his winning team out there in 2008.
“First and foremost I have to thank Evan and Latrell,” said Smith. “They gave me the opportunity over the last few years to prove myself and I could have never won the 2007 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle World Championship without them. I know things are difficult right now for Torco and I wish them and Evan all the best for a speedy recovery. We hope to see them both back at the track real soon.”
At this point in time, Smith has enough backing to get through the first few races of the 2008 season. Which in turn leaves a great opportunity for a new sponsor to come aboard a championship team. Any interested parties can contact him directly at mattsmithracing@yahoo.com
