Jason Miller of the Xtreme Drag Racing Association sent along the following update about changes to the program this year for the XDA.
We are excited to kick-off the 2024 XDA Season with the Platinum General Services Spring Nationals & Awards Ceremony on April 19-21, 2024 at Maryland International Raceway!
We receive many emails and calls from racers and the tracks at the end of each season with suggestions from racers to keep making the XDA better each year, and that’s exactly what we will continue to do. We want to take this time and inform you all of some of the changes being made for the 2024 season that will help with some of our issues and growing pains to make an even better program for our racers. We are grateful for the growth and your support, but some changes are needed so we can complete programs, keep the wheels in motion and provide a great product for our racers and fans.
Please be sure to not only thank our XDA staff, but also thank the hard-working staff at our host tracks. XDA events have 3 times the number of racers and our events last much longer in duration than most of the car events they’re used to working. We never want to take them for granted as we need them to help execute our events. It is also imperative that we respect their facilities and take good care of them.
And as always, we need to balance our track time between Pros, Sportsman, and Grudge. We need all 3 groups for the XDA to be successful, and no one group is any more important than the other.
2024 XDA Season Changes Below:
Top Sportsman
- Top Sportsman will now run eliminations on Saturday instead of Sunday. This is being done to help speed up Sunday’s program and to reduce hot lapping of Top Sportsman bikes dropping back into Pro ET in the same round. We will still start Saturdays with 2 Sportsman Qualifiers like we have in the past and then start the Bracket Bash eliminations at 12noon followed by Top Sportsman eliminations. We will complete both the Bracket Bash and Top Sportsman eliminations on Saturday.
- All the Saturday Top Sportsman qualifiers also run in Sunday’s Pro ET class. Since the Top Sportsman class is now completed on Saturday, all qualifiers simply show up and run Pro ET on Sunday. There are no longer T/S round merge overs, so whether you lost first round of Top Sportsman or won the final, you still show up in first round of Pro ET on Sunday.
- If you have a slower Bracket Bike and wish to run it on Sunday in Pro ET instead of your faster Top Sportsman bike, then you can take your tech sticker off your Top Sportsman bike after you have finished Top S Sportsman Eliminations and bring it to the tower. We will swap it out for a new sticker to put on your slower Bracket Bike to run in Pro ET and save the runs on your faster bike. We are dropping 1 of the Pro Qualifiers on Saturday to make more time so we can finish the Bracket Bash and Top Sportsman eliminations on Saturdays.
Sunday Sportsman Run Order
- Now that Top Sportsman eliminations are on Saturday, the run order for Sunday Sportsman Eliminations will be: Pro ET, 5.60, Street ET. This will now have the Saturday Qualifying Run Order and Sunday Eliminations Run Order the same for less confusion and easier for racers to follow.
Pros now have 3 Qualifiers instead of 4
- Pros will still have a Friday Pro Qualifier at 9pm. However, we will now only be doing 2 Saturday Pro Qualifiers instead of 3. The Saturday Pro Qualifiers will be at 2pm and 7pm (1 day qualifier to tune for eliminations, and 1 night qualifier to throw the coals at it for the fans). This means for the 2024 season, there will be a total of 3 Pro Qualifiers (1 on Fri and 2 on Sat). This change has been made because we need little to no carnage plus perfect weather to get 4 qualifiers done, and that hardly ever happens. This change to 3 Pro Qualifiers will help us get the Bulls eliminations completed on Saturdays and have less interruption in Saturday’s Sportsman Eliminations. Between 3 “Pro Prep” test runs on Friday and 3 more Pro Qualifiers, everyone has a shot at 6 runs before eliminations begin.
Locked-In Bulls Shakedowns and Eliminations
- Locked-In Bulls will still have a Friday Shakedown at 9pm. However, Locked-In Bulls will now have 1 final Shakedown on Saturday at 2pm. We will then do the Chip Draw on Saturdays at 4pm and start 1st Round of Bulls at 5pm, 2nd round at 7pm, Semis at 9pm and Finals at 10:30pm. This will give the Bulls more time between runs, and more time for regular Grudge bikes to get more track time on Saturday nights. Between 3 “Pro Prep” test runs on Friday, 1 more Shakedown Friday night, and 1 final shakedown on Saturday, everyone has a shot at 5 runs before eliminations begin.
Pro Xtreme
- The MaxxECU Pro Xtreme class will be run at all XDA events this season, except the WPGC Bike Fest on July 26-28, 2024 at MIR.
ATV Invitational Shootout
- The ATV Invitational Shootout will only be run at the last 2 XDA events of the season during the FuelTech Bike Bash on August 23-25, 2024 at VMP and the DME Racing Fall Nationals on Oct 4-6, 2024 at MIR.

We have managed to keep tickets, tech cards, and sponsorships the same prices for 2024, even as expenses have increased like payroll, staffing, consumables, utilities, and other expenses. However, there will be a need for XDA to have an occasional price increase in the future just like any other business. These events must generate enough revenue for our host tracks so that they will want us to return every year. We still have the cheapest entry fees in the sport, we lease the best tracks in the country, we employ the largest and highest quality staff, and we are paying out $90,000 per event for a season total over $540,000 which is unprecedented.
We look forward to seeing you all on April 19-21, 2024 at Maryland International Raceway for the Platinum General Services Spring Nationals & Awards Ceremony!
