Top Fuel Motorcycle world record-holder and 20-time champion Larry “Spiderman” McBride is eagerly awaiting some good luck to come his way after what has been a trying stretch.
Sidelined since Nov. of 2020 with a knee replacement, followed by a host of health complications, the Spiderman has come down with flu-like symptoms that will prevent him from entering what was supposed to be his much-anticipated comeback race, the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) Memphis Nationals at Memphis International Raceway this weekend, April 22-23, during the 35th annual Memphis Chevy Show.
The positive news is McBride believes his latest bout that has him bedridden is unrelated to any of his health issues from last year, and he expects to be fully recovered for the next two MWDRS events.
“I’m very disappointed and was so excited to go to my first MWDRS event. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do. I’ve been in bed the past three days and as much as I want to make it, I just have to stay home and get better,” said McBride, who along with loading up would be tasked with driving his race rig from Newport News, Va. to Memphis, certainly not an easy task when ill. “I wish everyone racing the best of luck and I can’t wait to be out there for the next one.”
McBride extended a special thank you to Tulsa Raceway Park’s Todd Martin and Top Fuel Motorcycle racer Mitch Brown for all the hard work they put in to bring Top Fuel Motorcycle to MWDRS.
“I’m very proud to be a part of this great series and I like where our class is headed,” McBride said. “It kills me not to be at the first one, but I know they will still have a great race without me and I cannot wait for the next one.”
