Fresh off his 268-mph record-smashing exhibition in the NHRA, Top Fuel Motorcycle legend Larry “Spiderman” McBride is ready to enter his first race since the 20-time champion won the Man Cup Finals at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Nov. 2020.
McBride is poised for his first Mid West Drag Racing Series event, the Summer Speed Spectacular, June 17-18 at World Wide Technology Park near St. Louis, Mo. after heath problems forced McBride to miss all of the 2021 season.
“I’m beyond excited to race again,” McBride said.
The Spiderman is expected to face stiff competition from six top-notch Top Fuel Motorcycles of Mitch Brown, Sam Wills, Dave Vantine, Chris Hand, newcomer Micah Fenwick and the Harley of John “Red” Rhea.
“It’s a big field and I know they will be gunning for us,” McBride said. “We are jus going to give it our best shot.”
Qualifying gets underway Friday evening with eliminations slated for Saturday evening at this much-anticipated eighth-mile event.
It will mark McBride’s first appearance in St. Louis since 2004 with the AMA ProStar series.
“Come out and see us if you can,” McBride said. “We are looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends.”
