Cycledrag has voiced concern in articles and videos about the alarming high number of drag strips that have been lost in the last few years. The trend was accentuated this past summer with the sudden and unceremonious closure of one of the most important tracks in motorcycle drag racing history, New Jersey’s Atco Dragway.
Now an all-important track that plays a big role in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally appears to have a very uncertain future.
On the Sturgis Dragway Facebook Page a post read, “After much careful thought and consideration, countless nights of no sleep, crunching numbers trying to make this work Black Hill Dragway LLC has decided not to renew the drag strip lease. We want to thank everyone who has supported us and became our friends and extended family these past years! This was inevitably one of the hardest decisions to make. We will miss all the people who made it possible!”
AHDRA and Baker Drive Train traditionally host races in conjunction with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Cycledrag will provide more information regarding this facility’s uncertain future as it becomes available.
