In Top Fuel Nitro Motorcycle world record drag racing teams are bound to hurt parts and damage engines in pursuit of top speed and low elapsed time in the world of high performance drag racing. In this video 20-time champion and Top Fuel drag bike world record holder Larry “Spiderman” McBride tells us all about the problem his team has had bending stainless valves and how he hopes a switch to inconel, like the what the NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car teams run, will keep him from bending or tuliping valves. During McBride’s world record weekend at the Man Cup Finals where he ran 5.50 at 264 mph, McBride hurt 24 valves in just six runs. This is why the team changes motors so often. McBride has the backup engines available from his long history in the sport and feels its easier to change a motor that to pull a head off at the track.
