AMA/AHDRA All-American motorcycle drag racing returns to Fountain’s North Florida Motorplex on March 17-19 to open their 2023 season. That means thundering, ground-pounding, flame-throwing, nitro Harleys will thaw out the panhandle and wake the locals from their winter slumber with the Don “DJ” Johnson Memorial Spring Nationals.
Nothing beats the violent thrust of a big Top Fuel Harley, nitro V-Twin engine, and this is the time and place to see these incredible motorcycles and the fearless men who ride them.
Defending NHRA U.S. Nationals winner Jay Turner, and multi-time NHRA champions Tii Tharpe and Randal Andras, defending AHDRA champion Tracy Kile and his Bad Apple Racing teammate “Jimmy Mac” McMillan, Sweden’s Juha “Sushi” Hintukainen, Floridians Jim Page and “Southside” Don Becker, Jim “Bad Influence” Martin, 2021 champ Ryan Peery, John “J.T”. Toth and more will all be vying for nitro glory on North Florida’s eighth mile.
Bad Apple’s “Bad Ass Mary” Dangrow will try to get the upper hand on defending Hawaya Racing Pro Fuel champion Sam White, Top Fuel racer Martin, her Bad Apple teammate Walter Halonski and more. Hopefully we’ll see legendary Rocky Jackson in the house, as we all continue to support him and Shayne Fisher in her health battle.
Nitro Funnybikes are yet another big-time nitro class, piloted by riders such as White, Jackson, defending champ Michael Balch, Chris Smith and Armon Furr.
Less noisy but every bit as impressive are AMA/AHDRA’s gas classes. GMS Racing Engines Xtreme Outlaw, Zippers Performance Pro Modified. Pingel Modified, V-Twin Powersports Hot Rod Bagger, Horsepower Inc. Pro Outlaw Bagger, Super Stock and MTC Pro Comp Outlaw all race out the back door, while 6.60 index, Super Pro, Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson Super Gas, Universal Fleet & Tire 7.00, and 7.35 index all race to a fixed number. Eliminator racers set their own dial-in, and the Trophy class is for those getting their feet wet.
And then there’s the family favorite, Junior Dragbikes.
Bill and Chrissy Rowe look forward to welcoming the AMA/AHDRA family back on track to start the new season at beautiful North Florida Motorplex.
