Among a record-breaking 2,000 motorcycle consignments slated for the auction block at Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycles 2024 are 30 private collections comprising 500 lots, including 277 to be offered at no reserve. The 33rd annual auction will once again claim title as the world’s largest vintage and antique motorcycle auction when it returns to South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas this Jan. 24-27, and portions of the four live auction days will be broadcast on MotorTrend+.
The current list of consignments headed for this enthusiasts’ mecca consists of a broad assortment of two-wheel gems, including hundreds of Hondas and Harley-Davidsons and an exceptionally wide selection of Yamahas, Triumphs, Suzukis, Kawasakis, Indians, BSAs, Ducatis and more.
From the Classic Motorcycle of Austria Collection is a unique gathering of 25 rare vintage motorcycles that include a 1925 BMW R37 (Lot S109), one of 152 produced, a 1936 Zundapp K800 (Lot S112.1) with its 798cc opposed 4-cylinder engine rebuilt and converted to plain bearings, a 1947 Zundapp Oskar Pillenstein Compressor Racer (Lot S111.1) that was the class winner of the 1948 German Motorcycle Championship at Norisring, and a 1972 Kawasaki H2 750 Mach IV (Lot F122) with a 748cc/74 HP 2-stroke air-cooled inline 3-cylinder engine.
The Charles Kalko Collection encompasses 30 foreign-built motorcycles with 29 to be offered at no reserve. The group includes a 1973 Munch TTS 1200 Mammut with a Velorex Type 452 Sidecar (Lot S133) with just 2,988 miles on the odometer, a highly original 1960 Matchless G50 Racer (Lot S132) and a 1977 MV Agusta 850 SS (Lot S134) with an odometer that reads 1,791 miles.
The Museo Moto Italia Collection of John Goldman comprises 38 investment and collector-grade vintage Italian motorcycles, including rare Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, Mondials and more. A restored 1948 Moto Guzzi Airone 250 Astorino (Lot T182.1) and a 1957 Mondial 250 Bialbero Grand Prix Racer (Lot S162) that captured the Best of Show at the 2017 Quail Motorcycle Gathering headline the collection.
The MC Collection of Stockholm Presents a Tribute to Edward Turner is a collection featuring 26 Edward Turner-designed Triumph motorcycles once featured at Stockholm’s Tido Castle as a tribute to a savior of the brand. The collection includes a 1960 Triumph 3TA Twenty-One (Lot F206) that was restored in England before being displayed at the MC Collection in Stockholm.
The Cody Products Collection offers six vintage-era Speedway racing motorcycles from Jawa and others to form a unique selection of desirable track-used and restored bikes boasting excellent presentation, and The Backwoods Collection includes an exceptional variety of 11 motorcycles offered all at no reserve, including a restored 1915 Indian Board Track Racer (Lot S102) and a 1915 Rivet Tank Harley-Davidson Board Track Racer (Lot S138).
The Historic Automotive Racing Preservation Collection of six lots includes a trio of vintage BSA models, a Matchless (Lot S186), a Harley-Davidson (Lot S182), and even a 1989 Honda CBR250RR RC162 Replica (Lot S179), together forming a high-quality and historic collection.
In addition, a selection of approximately 100 lots of Road Art® will join the lineup in Las Vegas this January. Among the featured items is a selection from The David Silver Collection, including a 1926 White Rose Oil Porcelain Flange Sign (Lot Z309) and a Wakefield Castrol Single-Sided Porcelain Sign (Z308). Other noted Road Art items are a 2003 “100 Great Years” Giclee by Scott Jacobs (Lot Z316) and an Indian Motorcycles Double-Sided Tin Neon Sign (Lot Z450).
