Scrappers Racing had a busy weekend on the track during the four-wide competition. Five drivers in four different classes elicited many emotions.
Jianna Salinas made a couple smooth passes during qualifying. In the third qualifying session she set a personal best of 6.945 seconds. Unfortunately, that number fell slightly short of the 16-bike field. Her progression this year has shown her determination to make consistent runs and start adding more power to her Suzuki. The Pro Stock Motorcycle class will return to the circuit in Norwalk, OH for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Jianna will also test on Monday at zMAX Dragway ahead of the six week hiatus.
Jimmy Underdahl entered race day from the sixteenth qualifying spot and placed second in his quad first round with a 6.899 to move on. In the second elimination quad he ran 6.932 and fell short. He plans to join Jianna for testing on Monday and the Scrappers Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle team is looking to organize another test session before Norwalk.
Jasmine Salinas made her return to the Top Alcohol Dragster class after two months of recovery and preparation after the wreck in Gainesville. Her team used the four qualifying rounds to gather data, learn about the new car, and get Jasmine reacclimated in the cockpit. Her first full pass came during the fourth qualifying run, 5.336 seconds at 278.06 mph. “It felt really good, we know as a team what we are capable of. This weekend was really a test session for us, we wanted to make sure we got enough data to build from. I feel really good again being back in the car and I’m excited for the next race,” Jasmine commented on her weekend with a huge smile on her face. She lost first round Saturday evening but made another full run of 5.391 at 272.12 mph.
Jasmine and her A/Fuel team plans to test on Monday at zMAX Dragway before heading to Houston, TX for the NHRA SpringNationals next weekend. Mike Salinas had early success in the Pro Mod car. He qualified fifth with a 5.722 second run at 250.46 mph. In first round, the car made a move toward the center line at about half track, and he
safely guided the car down the track after shutting it off. He plans to run the remainder of the 2021 NHRA Pro Mod Series. In Top Fuel, Mike started race day from the tenth qualifying position. He ran the second quickest time of his quad but lost a berth to the second round on a hole shot.
